THIS ROD HAS BEEN SOLD.

Barder Rod Co The Chris Yates Barbus Maximus MK II 3-piece 11¼' split cane barbel rod C2004 in exceptional 99% of new condition.

We believe this to be the first 3-piece example of the MK II Chris Yates Barbus Maximus.  We have made no more than six of this variant.  It was commissioned as a one-off (1st December 2003) and it incorporates every conceivable refinement.  To date, there isn’t a detail that we’ve improved upon.

The blank is precisely built from superb Tonkin bamboo, to a specially formulated 3-piece interpretation of the standard 2-piece rod, taking into account the placement and effect of two sets of ferrules.  The resulting rod has exactly the same fishing characteristics as its two piece counterpart, but at less than 48” long in its bag, it is very concealable and portable.

The handle has finely knurled nickel silver fittings throughout and the cork is truly superb Flor grade with an onion shaped top.

The nickel silver splint end suction ferrules are blued, lacquered and fitted with unusual stoppers turned from very ancient locally grown Boxwood.

The rings are Aqualite at the butt, a matching and very thoughtfully specified aluminium oxide lined tip ring, and best lightweight hard chromed Sapphrite Laurels intermediate bridge rings.

The rod is whipped throughout, including graduated intermediates, with burgundy silk.

There is a hook keeper ring fitted to its hand forged nickel silver retaining strap, and the Indian ink inscription reads: The Chris Yates Barbus Maximus.  2004.

The rod comes in its dark green tailor made bag.

Suitable reel lines: 6 - 8 lbs BS
Casting weights: up to 1½ oz
Test curve: 1lb 6oz

This is a beautiful, handy and steely example of the versatile Barbus Maximus.  For barbel, naturally, it excels, but it is also ideal for big chub, tench and light tackle carp fishing.

A two year + wait and £2,250 are required when you order such a rod, or you can buy this one now and you’d swear it hadn’t been used.  Irresistible, surely.

Price: £2,000
