The Richard Walker MK IV Avon 10’ 2-piece in new unused condition c2010

This rod has been stored in ideal conditions since we completed it in 2010 and it remains unused and in perfect new condition.

We are particularly keen on the MK IV Avon.  It is a wonderfully limber and pleasant rod to use.  Its capabilities are surprising.  Chris Yates landed his 51 lb carp from Redmire Pool using an original Walker-built Avon.  I handled that rod, and the one we are offering has the same spirit and vigour.

More often than not, ten feet is a perfectly sensible length for an all round rod.  This famous design is of course incredibly versatile.  There isn’t much that it can’t be used for at a push but it excels on smaller lakes and ponds, for touch legering on rivers and float fishing where distance and depth aren’t extreme.  If we didn’t have a great deal of faith in this rod, we wouldn’t continue to make it.  I don’t mind admitting to coveting this exceptional example.

Specifications
We made this rod with hard chrome plated stand-off rings so that it is equally useful for float fishing and legering.
The whippings for the rings, hook keeper, handle top and reinforced ferrules are in translucent Burgundy silk, with perfectly spaced and graduated old gold Pearsall’s Gossamer silk intermediates.
The reinforced nickel silver splint end suction ferrule is a perfect fit and had a beautiful olive wood and cork stopper.
The 24" long flor grade cork handle has a subtly flared top and finely knurled and detailed nickel silver fittings.
The hook keeper ring is secured with a hand-forged nickel silver strap.
Reel lines: 4-6 (or 8 for extra abrasion resistance) pounds breaking strain.
Casting weights: up to 1 oz Test Curve: 1 pound.
