Record Breaking rod used by Chris Yates is Lot 380 at the Angling Auctions sale on Saturday the 30th of September

The Richard Walker MK IV split cane rod formerly owned by Chris Yates and used by him to catch his 51 lb record carp (known as The Bishop) from Redmire Pool in 1980.

We got a great thrill from seeing and handling this rod recently.  The split cane feels wonderfully strong, resilient and vigorous.  The rod, made up on a Richard Walker-built blank, owned by Chris Yates for many years and used by him to land a Redmire Pool carp that broke Walker’s record is, aside from Walker’s own MK IV, the most exciting, rare and historically significant coarse fishing rod in existence.  The story of its acquisition by Chris Yates is typically engaging and charming, and I’m sure that the rod’s next owner will be incredibly fortunate and happy to own such a superb piece of angling heritage.  I’d buy it myself if I wasn’t an impecunious rod maker.

If you are a connoisseur and lover of angling history this is a rod that you really must try to view before the Angling Auctions Romsey sale next Saturday.  Details can be found at http://angling-auctions.co.uk/?s=chris+yates
