Barder Rod Co Chris Yates Barbus Maximus 11’ 2-piece c2012 in mint unused condition.

An as new example of the MK II version of the barbel rod I developed with Chris Yates in the late 1980s and early 1990s, this rod is built to our very highest current specification.  It incorporates the following:

A hand-made split cane blank built to a tolerance of +/- one thousandth of an inch.  Finely knurled aircraft grade alloy handle fittings throughout.  Reinforced waterproof splint-end suction ferrule with a beautiful olive wood ferrule stopper.  Buttressed burgundy silk ring whippings (buttressed means that each whipping is doubled back on itself for several turns before finishing so that the ring is held more securely in place).  Ring and ferrule whippings have extra fine Pearsall’s Gossamer scarlet (shade 11a) silk tippings.  Matching Pearsall’s Gossamer intermediate whippings.

Flor grade cork for the handle, which has an onion shaped top.
Amberfin butt and tip rings.
Hard chrome plated stainless steel bridge rings.
A hand forged nickel silver strap to secure the hook keeper ring.

Test curve: 1½ pounds.
Reel lines: 6 – 8 pounds breaking strain.
Casting weights: 1 ounce +.

We wholeheartedly recommend the Barbus Maximus MK II as the best and most versatile split cane rod for barbel fishing.  Chris Yates used his to great effect last winter and was kind enough to re-endorse this view.

This outstanding rod is available for immediate collection or delivery.  It represents exceptional value for a rod that takes over 100 hours to make, costs £2,000 when ordered and arrives at the end of a two year + wait.

Price: £1,900
