The Richard Walker MK IV Carp Rod by B James & Son of Ealing, London.  c1953-1954
This is a superb and wholly original example of this iconic rod, from the firm's first run of production following the two dozen or fewer that Richard Walker inscribed.

The rod is straight, undamaged and has had light use only.  It has been correctly stored and is a super example of a proper MK IV Carp rod that would be a pleasure to fish with.

The exemplary split cane blank was flame tempered, hand split and hand planed by Bob Southwell of Croydon and boasts his trade mark pressed knots and steely resilience.  It is close whipped in red silk by Mrs Murgett, whose husband Frank was a well known London tackle dealer, bait breeder and author of the excellent 'How To Fish The Lower Thames'.

The long cork handle is clean and has a 'trumpet' shaped top and a correct one and a half inch diameter red rubber button.  The alloy handle fittings are the correct originals made by WR Products of Shepherds Bush.

The butt and tip rings are clear lined early 'Amberfin' with chromed steel bridge intermediate rings.  The correct slightly over-sized brass splint end ferrule is spigotted and has its original hardwood and cork stopper.  The original hook keeper ring is in place, and the B James labelled bag is clean, tidy and has not shrunk.

Price: £1,600
