THIS ROD HAS BEEN SOLD.

The Chris Yates Barbus Maximus MK I.  № 20 of the twenty one limited edition rods.  C1991
This is the penultimate rod from the limited edition of twenty one rods made at Edward Barder’s first workshop at Northend, Newbury.  It is 11’9” long, in two pieces + its detachable handle.  The middle section is hollow-built split cane and the tip is solid split cane.

The condition of the rod is mint and as new.  When we received it we removed the original owner’s name and renewed the Indian ink inscription.  We also replaced the original Pezon et Michel tip-to-mid ferrule with a new reinforced nickel silver splint end suction ferrule.

The rod, which was in structurally perfect and very lightly used condition, has been over-varnished and provided with a new tailor made bag by ourselves (the original had shrunk but is kept with the rod for historical integrity).  It comes with its original aluminium screw capped travelling tube.

The butt and tip rings are agate set in German silver frames.  The intermediate rings are Hardy-made hard chrome plated stainless steel bridge pattern.  The silk whippings are transparent Pearsall’s bottle green.  Stoppers are the original hardwood and cork.  A hook keeper is fitted.

The handle has an elegant onion-shaped top, alloy sliding reel fittings, butt cap & rubber button.
Suitable reel lines: 6 - 8 pounds breaking strain.
Maximum casting weight: 1 ounce.
Test curve: 1¼ pounds.

The rod has sufficient rings for float fishing as well as ledgering, and makes a super rod for barbel, chub, bream and large perch, as well as still water tench.  This is an especially precise and eminently fishable example of this sought after and historically significant model.

Price: £2,200

All pre-owned rods supplied by us are now issued with a specially printed and individually signed and dated certificate of ownership.
